Daily Dog Exercise Tips & Tricks
Keeping your dog active doesn’t always require long hikes or trips to the park. Daily exercise at home plays a major role in your dog’s physical health, mental stimulation, and overall happiness — especially during busy schedules, bad weather, or quieter days indoors.
Dogs that don’t get enough activity can develop boredom, anxiety, destructive behaviors, weight gain, and even joint stiffness over time. Simple activities at home help burn energy, strengthen muscles, and keep their minds engaged. Whether it’s a game of tug-of-war, indoor fetch, obstacle courses, scent games, or short training sessions, even small bursts of movement throughout the day can make a big difference.
Mental exercise is just as important as physical activity. Puzzle toys, hide-and-seek games, and practicing commands help challenge your dog’s brain and reduce stress. Many dogs become calmer, more confident, and better behaved when they have healthy outlets for their energy.
Exercise at home also strengthens the bond between pets and their owners. Spending intentional time playing, training, or simply moving together helps build trust and connection while supporting a healthier lifestyle for both you and your dog.
Every dog has different exercise needs based on breed, age, and health, but creating a consistent daily routine — even at home — is one of the best ways to support long-term wellness and quality of life for your pet.
Exercises:
Sit to stands: have your dog sit in a sphynx sitting position and then stand back up, this promotes strength in the hind legs and help posture
Backwards walking: using a treat towards the dogs chest to slowly make the dog walk backwards, increases balance and proprioception
Crawl: in a down dog position slowly use a treat to promote crawling forward having them push with their back feet, this promotes hind end awareness and strengthen the back legs
